The Department of Special Collections and Archives of the Queens College Libraries has a growing collection of unique artists’ books representing a broad selection of works from local and nationally recognized book artists. These works of art, presented in an unconventional book form, offer a remarkable resource for academic research and personal study, and challenge our perception of traditional book design. Artists’ books invite the reader to examine the nature of the book and encourage the idea of a multifarious reading experience. This site showcases a selection of artists' books from the larger collection.
The Special Collections staff is available to assist researchers with requests, and can provide presentations for classes interested in showcasing artists’ books and learning more about the genre. Due to their scarcity, fragility and value, artists’ books do not circulate. To view these works, appointments are recommended. Please refer to our office hours to schedule a visit.
