Unidentified children on the back porch of the house where most of the Columbia University SCOPE volunteers stayed during the summer of 1965 (746 Amelia Street, Orangeburg, SC).
The SCOPE Project was an initiative of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) during the summer of 1965, with around 500 predominantly white students from universities in the north and west traveling to southern communities to work on voter registration efforts.
