The Feinberg Act directs the Board or Regents to make up a list of organizations, mere membership in which shall "const1tute prima facie evidence of disqualification for appointment to or retention in any office or position in the public schools of the state."
This means that any teacher may be dismissed, without regard to length of satisfactory service in the classroom; without proof of misconduct of any kind; without due process of law. It means the burden of proof is shifted from the accuser to the accused. It means guild established only by association.
It means a threat to honest teaching, freedom of discussion and independent, creative thought in the schools.
SIGN A PETITION! To the Board of Regents requesting that public hearings be held on the Feinberg Act. These petitions, formulated by the Teacher’s Union, and distributed on campus by Campus Coalition, will be in the Caf. Today.
