STUDENT ASSOCIATION
QUEENS COLLEGE OF THE CITY UNIVERSITY OF NEW YORK
March 1, 1965
TO THE PARENTS OF QUEENS COLLEGE STUDENTS
Ladies and Gentlemen:
As you know, Andrew Goodman, a Queens College student was killed last summer in Mississippi where, with other college students from across the country, he was working for the civil rights of all Americans. Andy believed that a college student can (underlined) make a difference. He was killed because of his beliefs.
The student body of Queens College would like to keep burning the fire of hope and idealism so characteristic of Andy. To this end, the college has proclaimed the year beginning February 12, 1965 as the Andrew Goodman Memorial Year at Queens College and has established the Andrew Goodman Memorial Fund to be built from contributions of the College community. The Fund will be used to found a collection of civil rights materials--books, pamphlets, serials, documents-- to be housed in the Paul Klapper Library of the College.
The Fund is the result of the cooperative effort of the entire College community--the faculty, the administration, the Alumni Association and the student body. We should like to offer you the opportunity of participating in the creation of the Fund. Our hope is that each Queens College family will contribute just one dollar to help keep aglow the spirit of Andy Goodman--a college student who did (underlined) make a difference.
Contribution may be mailed or delivered to Boxx 600, Queens College, Flushing, New York, 11367. Checks or money orders should be drawn to the order of The Andrew Goodman Memorial Fund.
You may be sure that your contribution will be deeply appreciated by the entire College community.
Sincerely yours,
Richard Klarberg
