Dear Mr. and Mrs. Goodman:
I write to report to you the results of the deliberations of an ad hoc (ad hoc-underlined) faculty, student and alumni committee organized to establish a suitable memorial to you son, Andrew.
Queens College will proclaim the year beginning February 12, 1965 as the Andrew Goodman Memorial Year at Queens College. In addition, a concerted effort will be made to raise at least several thousand dollars to establish the Andrew Goodman Memorial Civil Rights Collection in the Paul Klapper Library at the College. The chief method of raising the money will be throughout the addition of a voluntary contribution of $.25 added tot he admission cost of all College sponsored events (with the exception of a few that are directed to the community beyond he College). All student organizations and other organization sponsoring College connected events will be asked to participate in the drive by adding the same voluntary contribution to admission costs.
You will be interested in knowing that the fund has already come into existence throughout contributions of members of the Department of Speech at the College and the Alumni Association. Other means of raising money for the fund are currently under discussion. I shall be pleased to keep you informed of developments as they occur.
I hope that you both may find some consolation and some satisfaction in the knowledge that there will be at Queens College a permanent memorial to Andrew in the form of a rich collection of library material that will serve the cause which meant so much to him.
Sincerely,
James R. Kreuzer
Associate Dean of Students
