*CONSTITUTION
Student Organization of S.E.E.K.
Search for Education, Elevation and Knowledge
PREAMBLE
We, the S.E.E.K. students of Queens College of the City University of New York, hereafter referred to as SEEK students, do hereby establish this constitution of the Queens College S.E.E.K. Student Association (SSA).

ARTICLE I: MEMBERSHIP
a. All members must be currently registered, matriculated S.E.E.K. students at Queens College and must subscribe to, or be interested int eh purpose of this organization.
b. No person shall be denied membership or office because of sexual preference, national origin, race, sex, physical disability, political or religious beliefs.

ARTICLE II: PURPOSE
Section 1: The purpose of the S.S.A. shall be to represent the concerns and interests of S.E.E.K. students on campus; to act as spokesperson for S.E.E.K. students on and off campus, and to keep S.E.E.K. students informed of the activities of the SSA.
Section 2: The SSA shall provide services and assist S.E.E.K. students whenever necessary.
Section 3: The SSA shall establish bylaws to carry out the provisions of this constitutions.
Section 4: S.E.E.K. Faculty and Student forums will be held monthly.

ARTICLE III: ELECTIONS
Section 1: All S.E.E.K. students are eligible to vote for S.E.E.K. students senators and S.E.E.K. Student Association executive officers.
Section 2: All nominees for organization board position must have minimum cumulative index of 2.0 and, if elected, must maintain a cumulative index of at least 2.0, an must be registered for the semesters during which they serve. All officers shall serve for one year and may be re-elected for one additional year as long as they maintain a minimum cumulative index 2.0 and are registered each semester.

Section 3: President-The person to receive the highest number of votes in the SEEK presidential election shall be elected. A SEEK student running for this position must complete a nomination petition by the due date which is set by (S.E.R.C.) Student Election Review Committee.
Section 4: Vice-president-The person to receive the highest number of votes in the SEEK Vice-president election . A SEEK student running for this position must complete a nomination petition by the due date which is set by (S.E.R.C.) Student Election Review Committee.
Section 5: Treasurer- The person to receive the highest number of votes in the SEEK Treasurer election . A SEEK student running for this position must complete a nomination petition by the due date which is set by (S.E.R.C.) Student Election Review Committee.
Section 6: Secretary-The person to receive the highest number of votes in the SEEK Secretary election . A SEEK student running for this position must complete a nomination petition by the due date which is set by (S.E.R.C.) Student Election Review Committee.
Section 7: The ballots on the Spring Annual elections shall read SEEK President, SEEK Vice-president, SEEK Treasurer, SEEK Secretary, SEEK Senator, SEEK Senator, First Alternate Senator and Second Alternate Senator.

ARTICLE IV: EXECUTIVE OFFICERS
Section 1:
The executive officers of the SSA shall be:
1. President: the official representative of the organization. The President of SEEK Student Association shall be the only official spokesperson for the SSA.
The president shall have the power to convene and preside over the meetings of the executive board and the general membership and prepare the agenda for the meetings of the executive board and the general membership. the president shall have the power of veto over all areas of budgeting and programming. Presidential veto may be overridden by a tow-thirds (2/3) vote of the general membership. Decisions of the general membership are final. The president shall further perform such duties as may be necessary and proper in the fulfillment of his/her office, subject to the approval of the executive board.
2. The vice-president shall be required to see that standing committee chairpersons are fulfilling their duties. The vice-[resident shall further perform such duties as may be necessary and proper in the fulfillment of his/her office, subject to the approval of the executive board. If the president is unable to perform his/her duties (due to impeachment, leave of absence or resignation), the vice-president shall assume the position of president.
3. The treasurer shall keep a detailed record of all monies allotted to the organization. The treasurer shall also submit all payments requests.
The treasurer shall perform such duties as may be necessary and proper in the fulfillment of his/her office, subject to the approval of the executive board.

4. The secretary shall take minutes and attendance of all meetings and maintain an up-to-date active voting membership roster. A new secretary will be elected in a special election called by the president if a vacancy occurs in this office.
Section 2: The executive officers (President, Vice-president, Treasurer, and Secretary) shall carry out the decisions of the SEEK assembly (4 Executive officers and 5 Chairpersons of standing committees).

ARTICLE V: COMMITTEES
Section 1: There shall be five standing committees of the SSA: Education, Programming, Research, Advertising/Promotion, and Public Relations.
Section 2: Chairpersons of the standing committees are to be elected within six weeks after the first day of classes at the Faculty Student Forum by the SSA executive board. The chairpersons of the standing committees shall meet at least once a month.
Section 3: Committee chairpersons and members must be SEEK students for eligibility. Members of these committees will be appointed upon petition for position.
Section 4: The chairperson and committee members shall commit to a weekly meeting.

ARTICLE VI: SEEK ASSEMBLY OF STUDENTS
Section 1: The executive officers, along with the standing committee chairpersons, shall constitute the SEEK Assembly of Studetns, hereafter referred to as SEEK Assembly.
Section 2: The SEEK president shall preside over all SEEK Assembly meetings.
Section 3: The SEEK Vice-president shall preside over SEEK Assembly meetings in the event that the president is absent or cannot be present.

Section 4: The SEEK Assembly shall have all legislative powers unless otherwise indicated in this constitution.

ARTICLE VII: MEETINGS OF THE SEEK ASSEMBLY
Section 1: The first meeting of the SEEK Assembly shall take place no later than two weeks after the first Academic Senate meeting following the Spring Election.
Section 2: The SEEK Assembly shall meet at least bi monthly (time to be establish ).
Section 3: All decisions are made by a simple majority unless stated otherwise in this constitution.
Section 4: All members and rules shall be governed by Robert's Rule of Order (latest edition).

ARTICLE IX: AMENDMENTS
Section 1: Amendments to this Constitution or it's by law can be proposed by a majority vote of the SEEK Assembly.
Section 2: Proposed amendments to this Constitution or it's by law shall be adapted by a two-thirds (2/3) vote of the SEEK Assembly.

ARTICLE X[I]: IMPEACHMENT
Section 1
Any officer of the SSA may be brought upon impeachment charges if he/she is acting detrimentally to the organization or he/she has significantly disregarded the major responsibilities of his/her office.
Section 2
If a list of charges, signed by 3/4 of the S.E.E.K. Assembly is submitted to the president he/she must call impeachment proceedings. If the president is being brought upon charges, the petition shall be submitted to the vice-president.
Section 3
If a list of charges, signed by two-thirds of the active members is submitted to the president, he/she must call for impeachment proceedings (see section (2) two for remaining steps).

Section 4
After proper impeachment proceedings, the officer(s) so charged may be impeached by a 3/4 vote of organization members. If impeachment passes by a 3/4 vote of organization members the officer shall be removed from his/her position.
Section 5
Special elections:
a. Upon impeachment of
1. President- the vice president assumes the presidency and a special election is held for vice-president within a month period.
2. Other officers - a special election will be held within a month period.
