About the Archive

The Queens College Special Collections and Archives, part of the Benjamin Rosenthal College Library, comprises 4,500 cubic feet of primarily college records from 1937 to the present. Collecting began formally in the late 1960's, supplementing earlier efforts to preserve largely unorganized records. The department is especially interested in the materials that preserve the history of the Borough of Queens and the New York City region. Our collections are particularly strong in capturing the College’s history of excellence in the areas of Performing Arts, Literature, Politics, and Civil Rights.

College Records

Processing is currently underway for departmental, administrative, alumni and student records spanning decades of activity on campus. Our holdings represent a diversity of activities dating from 1937 to the present.

You can view the finding aids at Collections and Finding Aids for fully processed collections, or contact us for access to departmental and faculty records and publications. Note: The majority of student newspapers, from the first newspaper (the Crown) to the recent Quad and current Knight News, are available on microfilm in the Library Media Center. The Archives has original copies and a few specialized newspapers not microfilmed.
