Printers and Publishers
Comedias sueltas were published by a number of enterprises across Spain, most of them small and many family-operated. The differences between their products, while superficially subtle, become more distinct upon closer inspection.
Los Hermanos de Orga
The printing business of brothers Joseph and Thomas de Orga, in the city of Valencia on Spain’s Mediterranean coast, produced a great deal of comedias sueltas in the 18th and early 19th centuries.
Their plays represent some of the biggest names in Spanish theater. They also serve as a good example of suelta branding - the metal rope ornament that runs across the first page of the pamphlet opposite is an Orga staple.
