DEPARTMENT OF THE AIR FORCE
WASHINGTON

OFFICE OF THE SECRETARY

April 20, 1951

Dear President Theobald:

I am pleased to inform you that the application has been approved for the establishment of an Air Force ROTC unit at Queens College.

Although the nominal date of activation of the unit will be July first, ROTC instruction will be inaugurated at the beginning of the 1951-52 academic year. In the event you plan to adopt an accelerated program, under which both academic and ROTC courses would begin immediately after the end of the current semester or term, please advise us at your earliest convenience in order that the necessary arrangements can be made.

One or more Air Force representatives will visit your institution in the near future, to assist you in preparing for the installation of the new unit. A copy of the Application and Agreement, signed by my representative, will be returned to you through Air Force channels within the next few weeks. This document will constitute your contract with the Department of the Air Force.

Please let me express my personal and official appreciation for your interest in the Air Force ROTC program. I look forward to a long and pleasant association, in the joint conduct of this vital Air Force program for the benefit of the national security, with Queens College.

Sincerely yours,
[illegible]

Dr. John J. Theobald
