Dear Mr. Rosenthal:
This is to inform you that Queens Council on the Arts was not funded this year by the National Endowment for the Arts under the Expansion Arts Program. I understand that Borough Arts Councils and other arts councils in the State have also been turned down, for the first time.
This sets a precedent which in effect eliminates funding for arts councils' community arts programs under Expansion Arts.
A vast number of community arts groups who now depend on the direct support of QCA will be directly affected.
In order to insure that the arts continue the thrive in our communities - and contribute to the quality of life of our people - the continued support by the National Endowment for the Arts' Expansion Arts Programs of community arts councils is vital.
We urge you to seek continued support by the Expansion Arts Program toward the arts services the Borough Arts Councils provide in our communities.
Thank you.
Sincerely yours,
