NUCLEUS began about fire years ago as a journal of the Biology-Medical Society. After a few issues, it was decided, in the Spring of 1961, to expand the journal so as to include all of the science clubs (Biology, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, and Psychology). From this decision, the new NUCLEUS has evolved.

In the first issue, we are presenting a diversified collection of articles which we hope will develop an interest in the scientific fields in the student body. In this journal we have tried to present some of the theories and interesting facts of science which, though they might be somewhat technical, may be read by non-science students as well as by science majors. If after reading this issue of NUCLEUS, you find that you can offer some suggestions for its improvement, or, if you are able to write a paper concerning some specific scientific problems about which you are interested, submit them to NUCLEUS c/o the Biology Department and they will be gratefully considered for future publicans.

NUCLEUS would not have been possible without the aid of Dr. James E. Tobin, Director of the School of General Studies; Dr. Toge S.K. Johansson, Chairman of the Biology Department; Dr. James R. Kreuzer, Associate Dean of Students; Mrs. Lee Cogan, Offical Publications Editor; and Mrs. Ann Dugan our typest. Thanks also are due to Standard Scientific Supply, Champlain Biological Service, and Certified Blood Donor Service, Inc., who answered our plea for advertisers for this journal and added to the possibility of its existence. To the aforementioned, we headily extend our sincere thanks. We also hope that future publicans will include contributions by members of the Physics and Psychology Clubs.
